An Optometrist is a health-care professional who is specialized to diagnose, manage and treat all visual disorders. They attain their degree after successful completion of a four-year course from a recognized University. Their subspecialties include fitting contact lenses, prescribing low vision devices, advising vision therapy exercise, working on diagnostic equipment.
Ophthalmologists differ from optometrists on the grounds of their training and in patterns they diagnose and treat. Both can provide a variety of eye care services and are eligible to prescribe drugs to treat certain eye disorders, such as pink eye, allergies, and glaucoma. However, the main difference between an ophthalmologist and optometrist is that only an ophthalmologist is qualified to perform surgery.
