Retina surgery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><b>What are the alternatives to a combined surgery?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One could do a sequential surgery.\u00a0 First, the cataract needs to be operated by an anterior segment surgeon and subsequently, after one or two weeks a retina specialist could do a vitrectomy surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the presence of significant cataract, it is not possible to do a vitrectomy surgery first. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Can one surgeon do both cataract and vitrectomy surgery?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No. Generally by training and practice they are two different sub-specialities of ophthalmology. Doctors who are proficient in vitrectomy surgery do not regularly do <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cataract surgery<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
